What NOT to write about in lettings agents blogs

On Friday, I talked about how you should do a blog. Now to give the other side of the argument, i want to tell you what you shouldn't talk about ...

Anyone can start a lettings agency blog but not everyone knows how to write a lettings agency blog people( or more importantly landlords) actually want to read. What can bloggers do to keep visitors coming back for more again and again after their initial visit? Every effort on your blog impacts your readers from your design and feel, but the most important thing is content.

So, the most important part of any blog is what you have to say and how you say it. Landlords will return to your blog if they like what you write about a specific subject and they like your writing style (mine is quite chatty and like to have funny pictures all over it). With that in mind, your lettings agency blog should be written in a tone appropriate to your blog topic. Keep it personable so as to invite interaction through blog comments and links back to your blog from other bloggers who like what you write.

However, landlords pay you to a job ... You wouldn't constantly return to your garage's blog on a  dialy basis, if the Chief mechanic talked about how he changes  tricky type of brake calipers or the new EU rules on Electric safety for cars .. so why he hell do you letting agents do exactly the same?  Look at some of the titles below .. wow there is some stuff that makes me go .. wow.. i want to come back every day .. this is $exy lovely stuff! (not)
  • Washing machine maintenance tips (I thought you were a letting agent not a appliance guru from Curry's)
  • Declaring your rental income (You are my accountant now are you?)
  • Preparing to Let Your Property (Kirsty and Phil?)
  • Well off people are becoming “rich list renters” (no.. I have no idea what it means either)
  • Do YOU have problems with Mould? (that's rather personal .. and no i dont .. i have bleach and an ability to open a window)
  • What could you do with your basement? (answers on a postcard)
  • A piece of Landlord legislation you probably don't know about : Legionnaires Disease (I can assure you no French have been in my property)
  • News & views from ****** Sales and Lettings (mildly interesting .. yawn)
  • Landlords beware of tenant sub let scams (Watchdog?)
  • The HomeOwners Alliance (.. is that one of those new banks?)
  • House Price Indices - Surveys (I couldnt give a monkeys about what is happening in the UK, I want to know about my own town)
  • What Do You Expect (expect of what, whether my team will win the FA Cup, whether it will rain tomorrow ... enlighten me ... please tell me)
  • Tenant’s Contents Insurance (Its coming out of their deposit anyway)
  • Committed to Letting Agents Regulation (so what)
  • "Can an amendment to laws prevent the questionable actions of some letting agents?" (Probably could .... but as 40% of landlords don't even know their letting agent doesn't have client money protection .. this really is none starter)
