Why Are Estate Agents Scared of Their Own Vendors?
Estate agents love to talk a big game—until a seller asks them to drop their fee. Then, suddenly, all their confidence evaporates. Instead of explaining why they’re worth their full fee, they cave instantly. “Okay, we’ll match the other agent.”
Pathetic.
If an agent can’t even negotiate their own commission, how on earth can they be trusted to negotiate the best price for a seller? Negotiation is at the heart of estate agency. Yet, agents seem terrified of standing their ground, preferring to give away their value at the first sign of pushback.
The problem? They don’t believe in their own worth. They haven’t been trained in sales, so they don’t know how to defend themselves. They think dropping their fee will secure the instruction, but all it really does is tell the seller they weren’t worth the full price in the first place.
Sellers deserve better. If your agent can’t even fight for their own money, what makes you think they’ll fight for yours?
