Self Employed Estate Agency isn’t for everyone

Starting your own estate agency may seem glamorous and exciting, but it's crucial to be self-aware and understand your true calling.

Self Employed Estate Agency has become the talk of the town, and while it's a fantastic path for some, it may not be the right fit for everyone.

Before you jump into the world of starting an estate agency business, take a moment to reflect on who you are and what truly brings you joy.

The pressure of being a sole businessperson can be overwhelming, and it's essential to acknowledge that failure is a possibility.

If your heart isn't fully committed to running an agency and you're doing it for external validation or trendiness, be prepared to face public scrutiny when things don't go as planned.

I implore you to consider your strengths and passions, even if they lead you away from starting you own estate agency.

Being number 2 or number 7 in a well-established estate agency chain earning £100k can bring just as much fulfilment and success as being the founder of your own Estate Agency

The key is to be true to yourself and your aspirations.

True success lies in building a business around what you genuinely love and believe in.

Don't get caught up in the illusion of overnight success or the allure of being your own boss.

Building a meaningful Estate Agency takes time, hard work, patience & dedication.

Are you prepared to pound the streets 4 hours a day in day out for the first year, or and do 3 videos a day and go to network meetings?

How many of the last 50 valuations that you have done have come about through your own direct action (either someone contacted you directly on your mobile phone or social media or through your door knocking). If you left today, that is the number of valuations that you would receive next month and the month after that.

Do you really think your old colleagues are going to give your mobile number out to potential vendor to contact you in three or four months after you’ve left? I doubt it.

I find it fascinating that so many estate agents make the plunge of starting an Estate Agency without creating a personal brand for themselves before they get going.

It’s almost like they want to get their logo & business card sorted out before trying to work out how the hell are they going to get valuations.

You might be the best converter of free valuations, but if you’re not getting the valuations in the first place, how the hell are you going to convert them?

I encourage each one of you to be self-aware and prioritise your happiness above all else.

Find your purpose, whether it's through starting your own agency or other fulfilling avenues in the estate agency industry.
