Was it easier back then? No. Just different.

We didn’t have portal invoices that needed a second mortgage to pay off, or social media feeds to babysit every hour.

But we did have to door knock in the rain, stick photos on brochures or tippex out the asking price on price changes, we had had written applicant cards, newspapers selling a page for equivalent of £600 per week, hotboxes and survive that local paper deadline without crying.

Truth is, it’s always been hard to make a living in this EA game. But now, some think a Canva post, a pie chart and a branded mug makes them a market leader. Spoiler: it doesn’t.

Technology’s evolved. People haven’t.

Sellers still want trust. Buyers still want truth. And estate agents still need grit.

Us grumpy old gits just make noise because we’ve been there.

We see the same potholes ahead and feel obliged to point them out.

The question isn’t “Was it easier then?”

It’s: Will you learn quicker than we did? Or will you waste five years reinventing mistakes we’ve already made?

That’s the bit they didn’t teach you in 7th place Participation medals school.
