Estate Agents: The Overpaid Order Takers

Most (not all), but most estate agents donโ€™t sell homesโ€”they just take orders.

They list a property, throw it on Rightmove, and wait for the phone to ring.

Thatโ€™s not selling, thatโ€™s being a middleman.

If thatโ€™s all it takes, why do they even exist?

A real salesperson persuades, negotiates, and actively works to secure the best outcome for their client.

They donโ€™t just facilitate a transaction; they create value.

Yet, estate agents seem content with doing the bare minimum while complaining about their fees being under attack.

The irony? The best agents in other industriesโ€”like recruitment or financial salesโ€”would be horrified by how weak estate agents are at defending their own worth.

Instead of demonstrating expertise, they roll over at the first sign of resistance.

If youโ€™re an agent reading this and feeling defensive, ask yourself:

When was the last time you actively sold a listing without a portal?

When was the last time you built a chain over a few months, all off market?

When was the last time you leaflet dropped homes not on the market, yet fitted the perfect spec for and of chain blocker

Rather than just processing a deal?

If the answer is โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ congratulationsโ€”youโ€™re an order taker. And order takers arenโ€™t worth 1%, let alone 2%.

Tough love
