Estate Agents: The Overpaid Order Takers
Most (not all), but most estate agents donโt sell homesโthey just take orders.
They list a property, throw it on Rightmove, and wait for the phone to ring.
Thatโs not selling, thatโs being a middleman.
If thatโs all it takes, why do they even exist?
A real salesperson persuades, negotiates, and actively works to secure the best outcome for their client.
They donโt just facilitate a transaction; they create value.
Yet, estate agents seem content with doing the bare minimum while complaining about their fees being under attack.
The irony? The best agents in other industriesโlike recruitment or financial salesโwould be horrified by how weak estate agents are at defending their own worth.
Instead of demonstrating expertise, they roll over at the first sign of resistance.
If youโre an agent reading this and feeling defensive, ask yourself:
When was the last time you actively sold a listing without a portal?
When was the last time you built a chain over a few months, all off market?
When was the last time you leaflet dropped homes not on the market, yet fitted the perfect spec for and of chain blocker
Rather than just processing a deal?
If the answer is โI donโt know,โ congratulationsโyouโre an order taker. And order takers arenโt worth 1%, let alone 2%.
Tough love
