There’s a brutal paradox in estate agency no one likes to admit.

We all assume estate agents are motivated to sell homes—after all, that’s when they get paid, right?

Wrong in many (not all) cases.

Because for a big chunk of the Estate Agency industry, especially many employed valuers, the dopamine hit doesn’t come from the sale agreed or even getting the exchange and being paid.

It comes from winning the listing.

They don’t crave completions and ££££, instead, they crave validation.

They hate losing to a competitor agent 1,000% more than they hate not having a chance to sell the home.

So they overvalue, overpromise, and cling to market share of listings like swimming arm bands—then move on to the next.

It’s not about helping people move.
It’s about not being rejected.

A bit like Tinder for the insecure: no real connection, no end result—just chasing likes to feel wanted.

And who suffers?

The homeowner. Every time.
